Carpet tiles from Godfrey Hirst Australia met all the design objectives during the fitout of the new Hunting for George office in Cheltenham.

Hunting for George, a designer homewares store, moved from Richmond to Cheltenham, having truly outgrown their inner-city space. The Hunting for George crew approached Godfrey Hirst for a flooring solution to fit out their new office. Choosing the flooring was a major decision for the founders, Lucy and Jo, as it would set the tone for the entire office space. They needed to consider the three different areas within the HQ – warehouse, office and studio – and also factor in aspects such as noise, durability, maintenance and style.

Noise

Noise was a major consideration for the flooring due to the open plan design of the warehouse.

“We have an open plan layout, so noise has always been an issue for us. We wanted a floor that would absorb some of that,” Lucy explained.

Carpet is a great flooring option for high-traffic spaces as it helps insulate noise and absorb sound. Carpet’s unique fibres, piles, tufts and underlay have different resonant frequencies at which sound is absorbed, contributing to the flooring material’s excellent noise absorption. Godfrey Hirst also offers two superior cushion backing systems that feature acoustic benefits, along with added comfort underfoot.

Durability

The homewares store sought a hardwearing product that would not only withstand foot traffic for years but also maintain the look. Choosing a carpet with a commercial heavy-duty or extra heavy-duty rating that’s been independently tested for wear and durability is a safe investment for hard-working environments. Godfrey Hirst’s carpet tiles and commercial broadloom have been independently tested to meet these ratings.

Maintenance

Warehouses are busy work environments and can easily collect dirt and dust on surfaces. It was, therefore, important to install a floor that would be easy to clean and maintain while also choosing a colour and pattern that could disguise spills or stains. Carpet tiles are perfect for such environments since individual tiles can be quickly pulled up and replaced without disturbing the entire floor area.

Style

Aesthetics was also an important consideration for the Hunting for George team in addition to performance. The floor “sets the tone for your entire interior and a good floor will make the rest of your interior styling a whole lot easier”.

Godfrey Hirst commercial carpets combine excellent performance with great visual appeal through clever use of colour and pattern, making them perfect for any office environment. Patterns on carpet are great as they tend to hide dirt and spills and continue to look amazing for years to come.

After assessing the factors, Inscribe in the colour Pottery was chosen for the new Hunting for George office. Lucy chose this carpet for its interesting combination of tones as well as the flecked colour and its slightly irregular pattern that looked less mainstream. Pottery contains flecks of different colours, which Lucy believed, “gave it an overall ‘lightness’ when displayed on mass”.

These carpet tiles were installed at the Hunting for George office to cover a surface area of 250sqm – the entire project being completed in one day to allow the team to continue the rest of their fitout on schedule.
