Automatic doors have become a staple in modern building design. Found in all building types from commercial high rises to multi-residential buildings, automatic doors provide an accessible entry and egress solution that is compatible with modern design aesthetics. Given the wide variety in quality and functionality between different automatic door systems on the market, it is critical for specifiers to understand the key design considerations relevant to door system specification.

'Swing, slide or revolving: Understanding your automatic door options' provides an essential overview of the best practice for specifying automatic door systems. We provide a brief summary of the history of automatic doors, and the impact of climate change on architectural design. This is followed by an examination of the problems caused by poorly specified door systems and the affects this has on overall building wellness. We then explore the key design considerations specifiers must account for to ensure the most appropriate automatic door solution is chosen for every project. Finally, we present a range of high performance automatic door solutions that cater to virtually every building type, climatic condition and user traffic level.
