SJ Proteger louvres enhance safety and design in heritage conversion project in Melbourne

Melbourne’s historic Pentridge Prison has been transformed into a unique accommodation and lifestyle precinct, with the Adina Pentridge Hotel at its heart. Operated by TFE Hotels, the 120-apartment hotel skilfully blends contemporary design with the property's remarkable heritage. While some of the former prison cells have been converted into distinctive hotel rooms, others remain preserved in their original state for public viewing.

In addition to these historical elements, a new component of the project provides nine levels of accommodation, communal facilities, and six levels of residential apartments. This new tower features Safetyline Jalousie’s SJ Proteger louvres as an integral part of the design.

The conversion, led by Cox Architecture, respects the site's rich history while introducing modern architectural innovations. Safetyline Jalousie’s SJ Proteger louvres, incorporated into the new tower, serve as Natural Smoke and Heat Ventilators (NSHV), ensuring that in the event of a fire, the walkways remain free of smoke, allowing occupants to safely exit the building.

Beyond their essential safety function, the SJ Proteger louvres complement the sleek, modern aesthetic of the tower, contributing to the precinct’s balance of old-world heritage and contemporary luxury. Opened in 2020, the Adina Pentridge Hotel showcases how Safetyline Jalousie’s high-performance louvres enhance both safety and design, making this project a striking example of heritage transformation for modern living and accommodation.
