Garage door automation specialist Merlin has released a new range of openers designed for the homeowner to control, open and monitor their garage door using a smartphone, tablet or computer when away from home. Merlin garage door openers, available from Chamberlain Australia, are helping Australian homes become smarter and safer.

Chamberlain Head of Marketing, Grant Emanuel explains that Merlin’s new MyQ range gives homeowners round-the-clock peace of mind that they can check on their property when out and about or allow guests and tradesmen access to their garage when no one is at home.

The average Aussie household is expected to have up to 24 Internet-connected devices by 2019, according to an IoT study, further strengthening the smart home evolution over the next few years. Merlin’s MyQ technology was developed to help homeowners extend this smart home evolution to the most forgotten part of the house – the garage.

Merlin’s MyQ app uses encrypted technology to securely connect homeowners to their home router and manage access via their smart device. Homeowners can choose to receive notifications whenever the garage door is used (including date and time) and use the app’s scheduling feature to program the door.

According to Emanuel, customers prioritise security and convenience - in that order - when buying automated garage door solutions. A major advantage of Merlin’s MyQ is that it can be attached to existing garage doors, avoiding the need for homeowners to replace them with a new one to enjoy the benefits of smart, automated garage doors.

MyQ also integrates with the garage door’s obstruction detection safety system, which keeps children, pets and the family car safe and out of harm’s way by automatically stopping and reversing the door if obstructed.

Merlin’s MyQ range includes the Commander MyQ opener for single or double sectional garage doors, and the SilentDrive Elite MyQ opener for single or double roller doors.

The Merlin SilentDrive Elite MyQ and Commander MyQ product kits include two Premium+ remote controls for reliable and long range control and the MyQ internet gateway. Both products are backed by a seven-year warranty and Merlin’s after sales support service.
