The building sector accounts for 39 per cent of global carbon emissions, almost twice that of transportation. One of the biggest contributors to the emissions problem is the energy required to maintain indoor climates in buildings, which can be significantly compromised by open doors.

Such a critical issue demands focussed attention from all stakeholders in the building and construction industry.

Sustainability has been prioritised by ASSA ABLOY across their operations to reduce their environmental impact through smarter and more energy-efficient technologies that lead to new and improved entrance solutions.

Energy saving entrance systems

ASSA ABLOY’s comprehensive array of entrance systems includes automatic, swing, sliding and revolving doors. Particularly recommended for retail, healthcare, hospitality and commercial buildings with high traffic and footfall areas, these entrance systems can significantly reduce energy consumption by minimising air leakage. Where accessibility is made more efficient and sustainable, the whole building saves energy and reduces its environmental impact.

EcoFlex and Low Energy locks

Electrified access systems consume a lot more energy than actually needed. ASSA ABLOY’s revolutionary EcoFlex technology utilises a power-saving design to lower energy consumption by up to 96 per cent, addressing the modern world’s need for smarter, more energy-efficient solutions to the environmental crisis.

Third-party certified by GreenCircle, EcoFlex is available in the form of electrified door components such as mortise locks and exit trims, and can be applied to all building types.

ASSA ABLOY’s Low Energy locks are the world’s first-ever high-security energy-efficient electric locks delivering an impressive performance in low power consumption – the energy consumed by 1 magnetic lock is enough to power up to 3,000 of these Low Energy locks. Featuring a wide operating voltage range, and even enabling wireless applications, this revolutionary electric lock can be installed in a range of building types and renovation sites.

Intelligent tech for sustainability in business

Regardless of the size of operation, all sustainable businesses can contribute to the betterment of the global environment. That is why Mana Kai, a small beekeeping business in New Zealand uses intelligent technologies to improve product quality and overall operations.

Using HID Global RFID tags, the beekeepers at Mana Kai are now able to track the location of their hives at any given time, eliminating paper usage, improving workforce communication, and boosting overall efficiency and practicality.
