Dr Mehrdad Arashpour, a Senior Lecturer and Director of the Master of Infrastructure Engineering and Management Program at Monash University, is available to comment on the rollout of the National Construction Code (NCC) 2025 in Victoria.

Dr Arashpour will share his perspectives on key regulatory changes in NCC 2025 and their implications for industry, as well as the impact of updates to plumbing, safety standards and compliance pathways on the built environment.

“The introduction of NCC 2025 in Victoria marks a shift in how building and plumbing standards are applied, particularly with the immediate move to lead-free requirements in drinking water systems,” he says.

Eliminating redundant Victorian variations brings the state closer to alignment with national standards, while industry will face less complexity, he observes. Important local provisions such as expert judgement for structural and fire safety solutions have been retained in NCC 2025.

“Updates to children’s services requirements and the relocation of technical provisions into the NCC are also expected to streamline compliance and reduce regulatory burden but will require industry to quickly adapt to a new framework,” Dr Arashpour notes.

“Overall, these changes signal a continued move toward harmonisation and modernisation of Australia’s building standards, with important implications for safety, sustainability and construction practice across Victoria.”
