The appointment recognises Kate Ockwell’s role in strengthening the practice’s Queensland interiors portfolio and signals Plus Studio’s continued investment in human-centred, integrated design.

Over seven-and-a-half years with Plus Studio, Ockwell has played a pivotal role in shaping the practice’s multi-residential, hospitality and workplace projects.

With a portfolio of more than 100 projects – including SOL, a landmark residential precinct in Maroochydore; Faro, a boutique development in Broadbeach; and Lagoon, a two-tower residential development in Main Beach – her work is defined by a refined aesthetic, contextual sensitivity and a clear focus on how people live, work and connect within space.

Plus Studio Director Michael McShanag says Ockwell’s promotion reflects her influence on both the interiors discipline and the broader culture of the practice.

Joining Plus Studio as an emerging designer, Ockwell has progressed through her commitment to collaboration, quality and mentorship. She has helped shape studio culture by establishing interior design training initiatives, mentoring younger designers and championing an integrated design methodology where architecture and interiors operate in unison from concept to completion.

Reflecting on her new role, Ockwell says she is focused on reinforcing the human-centred approach that defines Plus Studio.

“What makes design meaningful is the people – both the ones we design for and the ones we design with. Every project is a collaboration, and the best outcomes come from shared ideas, energy and passion,” she says.

“I’m excited to keep building a studio that pushes design innovation and excellence, while keeping people at the centre of everything we do.”

As Principal, Ockwell will continue to guide interior design direction, strengthen client relationships and support the professional growth of the team. She remains focused on shaping inclusive, accessible spaces that enrich everyday life.
