Emma Bain of Premium Painting has taken out the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) Western Australia Crystal Vision Award.

Beginning as an apprentice painter in 2008, Bain has since won a raft of awards in her industry and was described by NAWIC WA President Hayley McBride as a role model for young women considering entering trades.

‘Emma is leading the way for women in construction related trades, she is a trailblazer for her generation and a most deserving winner,’ McBride said.

As well as being an active member of NAWIC, Bain is also a regular visitor to local high schools where she speaks to young women about potential careers in trades. McBride said it was this commitment to advancing and furthering the interests of women in the construction industry that earned Bain the top honour.

Three female Brookfield Multiplex employees also took home category honours. Brookfield’s Heidi Sowerbutts (Design), Aimee Semple (Safety) and Kylie Judd (Young Achiever) were all winners from their nominated categories.

Brookfield Multiplex Regional Managing Director Chris Palandri said the outstanding result by Brookfield’s woman employees was a tribute to the skill and work ethic of the Brookfield staff.

‘Each of our award winners and nominees are a credit to not only our company but to the broader construction industry, through their commitment to finding innovative ways to improve development quality, safety and design.’

The Awards for Excellence are held annually to recognise and celebrate the top achievements of women in the construction industry. The six award categories; Design, Environmental Sustainability, Leadership, Construction, Safety and Young Achiever, honour women for their contributions to the industry.

McBride said all of the Awards for Excellence winners were an inspiration to women in construction.

‘The winners of these awards are exceptional role models we can all look up to. The contribution they make across our state is extremely valued and deserves this recognition.’
