Royal Wolf designed and delivered a unique two-storey workshop facility made using shipping containers for BGC Contracting’s Whyalla-based mine site in South Australia. BGC is one of the country’s major open pit mining contractors.

Royal Wolf was commissioned by BGC to deliver a new modular workshop that would help support the operations of the mine site, specifically providing the ability to conduct all-weather maintenance on mining dump trucks.

Royal Wolf created a double-height containerised building made from 14 individually fitted-out units, each 40 feet in length, and housing one office, five workshops, three storage spaces and a lubrication distribution centre. Custom stairs and cantilevered walkways were installed to deliver accessibility and three loading docks were fitted with pivot gates to allow for goods to be easily packed in the storage containers.

Royal Wolf CEO Robert Allan said the latest facility builds on an already strong relationship with BGC Contracting and the mining industry.

Built to specifications given by the client in just three months, the workshop facility measures 27 metres long, 18 metres wide and 15 metres high. Royal Wolf’s customised containers are easy to assemble and transport, offering exceptional strength and security to provide the perfect facility for staff to carry out mining machinery maintenance onsite.
