New South Wales state Treasurer Daniel Mookhey helped pour the final concrete on Macquarie Data Centres’ newest hyperscale build, the 47-megawatt IC3 Super West facility, marking the completion of its external structure and setting the project on track for a September 2026 opening.

The $350 million first phase of IC3 Super West is rising inside the company’s Macquarie Park Data Centre Campus in Sydney’s north, already home to 65MW of capacity. When completed, the new site will be the only data center adding fresh AI capability to the region in 2026, which will be a boost, NSW officials say will be critical as Sydney competes for global cloud and AI investment.

“All the end-state power is locked in,” the company says, positioning the facility to meet surging demand from Hyperscalers, Enterprise customers and Neoclouds chasing high-performance computing and GPU-ready infrastructure. IC3 Super West forms part of a roughly 200MW expansion pipeline Macquarie Data Centres is rolling out across Sydney.

At the ceremony, Treasurer Mookhey praised the project as a sign of confidence in the state’s tech ambitions.

“Companies like Macquarie Data Centres keep investing, keep expanding, and keep believing that NSW can be a global home for high-tech infrastructure,” Mookhey says.

“In the years ahead, thousands of businesses will run smarter because this building exists. Research will accelerate. AI capability will expand. And NSW will be more globally competitive because this building exists.”

The build comes as the state doubles down on digital infrastructure, buoyed by initiatives like the NSW Government’s new Investment Delivery Authority, aimed at speeding major tech projects, including Macquarie’s recently announced 150MW planned site.

David Hirst, Group Executive at Macquarie Data Centres, says IC3 Super West was engineered specifically for the new wave of high-density AI workloads.

“Demand for high-density AI infrastructure is the most significant megatrend we’ve seen in over 25 years,” Hirst says.

“IC3 Super West is purpose-built for the power and liquid cooling required by next-generation AI. Sovereign data centres keep Australia competitive in the global market and are the foundation of our AI future.”

The facility will support a hybrid mix of air and liquid cooling, with 6MW of IT load included in its initial fit-out. The company says the build’s direct-to-chip cooling capability is aimed squarely at the GPUs and high-performance compute clusters driving today’s AI surge.

IC3 Super West will be the third data centre on the growing Macquarie Park campus, and, if demand continues at its current pace, far from the last.
