The $5.5 billion Northern Beaches Hospital in Frenchs Forest, Sydney has officially opened, three months ahead of schedule.

Designed by BVN Architecture, the new hospital is a Level 5 facility with 488 beds and a wide range of medical services including emergency, interventional, intensive care, high dependency, coronary care, day surgery, medical imaging, maternity and birthing, special care nursery, paediatric inpatient, public and private inpatient units, renal dialysis and day medical facilities, ambulatory care, GP clinic, private consulting suites, mental health unit and clinical support.

The development also includes a 1,400-space multi-storey car park, 41-space on-grade car park and ancillary precinct-wide development, including landscaping and roadworks.

According to BVN, it is the first hospital in NSW to receive a 4 Star Green Star rating.

“The Northern beaches Hospital will provide an important civic anchor to Frenchs Forest, and to the whole of the Northern Beaches,” says architect BVN.

“This campus will be accessible, safe and approachable to the range of communities it serves, and is able to be used with confidence and comfort by all cultures. It is a campus in which the community can take pride, providing a welcoming and positive design for patient and staff wellness.”

“This is just the beginning of the transformation planned for Sydney’s Northern Beaches, with investment in infrastructure projects that will see the development of 3,000 apartments in buildings up to nine storeys high,” says Shane Preston, executive at Nearmap.
