The Melbourne School of Design will launch a lecture series on March 22, starting with a public lecture by award-winning American architect Nader Tehrani.

The Graduate School sits within the Faculty of Architecture, Building and Planning at The University of Melbourne.

Nader Tehrani is a principal and founder of the newly-formed NADAAA, a practice dedicated to the advancement of design innovation, inter-disciplinary collaboration, and an intensive dialogue with the construction industry.

Tehrani is also a professor and the head of the Department of Architecture at the MIT School of Architecture and Planning.

The event will commence with an introductory conversation between Nader Tehrani and John Wardle of the Melbourne based firm — John Wardle Architects.

Tehrani and Wardle have been engaged by the University of Melbourne to build a landmark new building for the Faculty of Architecture, Building and Planning. For the first time, these two architects will publically discuss the theoretical framework that will inform their innovative design.

Following the conversation with Wardle, Tehrani will give an insight into how his firm NADAAA builds on material logics, conceptual platforms, and new media as a way of advancing the boundaries of the architectural discipline.

To coincide with the lecture, an exhibition of selected projects by Nader Tehrani will be on display in the Wunderlich Gallery, March 21-31.

The school will launch the Dean’s Lecture Series at the Carrillo Gantner Theatre, Basement, Sidney Myer Asia Centre.
