Robotics researchers in architecture and design from around the world will gather in Sydney this month for a major conference being hosted by the University of Sydney in collaboration with five leading Australian universities.

The biennial international conference, Rob Arch 2016 being held at Walsh Bay from 15th to 19th March will see the participation of university and industry researchers in robotic fabrication from around 10 countries including Australia, USA, China, Korea, Switzerland, Denmark, Netherlands, Austria, Portugal and Spain.

The Rob Arch 2016 event comprises of a 3-day program (15th-17th) of eight parallel robotic workshops in the industrial setting of Pier 2/3 at Walsh Bay; and a 2-day conference (18th-19th) with over 30 speakers from the world’s leading universities, robotic industry and practitioners presenting their latest research. A free public exhibition is also being organised on 18th March.

The University of Sydney’s Dr Dagmar Reinhardt, Conference Co-Chair, robotics researcher and Bachelor of Architecture and Environments Program Director, says Rob Arch 2016 is a significant global event for researchers and industry working on the next generation of robots in architecture.

Manager of the University’s Design Modelling and Fabrication Lab (DMaF Lab) and Rob Arch 2016 Workshop Chair Marjo Niemelä notes that the conference presents an exciting opportunity for researchers from robotic and fabrication labs around the world to demonstrate and share emerging technologies and new methods of design and construction using robots.

The University of Sydney’s Faculty of Architecture, Design and Planning is hosting the conference alongside the University of NSW, Bond University, RMIT, University of Technology Sydney, and Monash University.

Rob Arch 2016 will be held at Pier 2/3 Hickson Road, Walsh Bay, Sydney, Australia.
