Keynotes, talks, panels, films and tours will contribute to a vibrant platform of events at the inaugural SCCI Architecture Hub 2018 being held in Paddington, NSW in October.

Organised by the Sherman Centre for Culture and Ideas (SCCI), the 10-day event will host several distinguished architects from around the world and showcase the best contemporary ideas on architecture and its intersections with culture, society, technology, art and literature through a packed program comprising of keynote speeches, themed sessions, and curated tours.

SCCI Founder, artistic director Dr Gene Sherman announced the full program details for the inaugural SCCI Architecture Hub 2018.

“Following a sold out inaugural SCCI Fashion Hub in April, we will now celebrate Architecture in all its complexity from 12–21 October with a rich program for professionals and the general public that continues our work with SCAF and the Fugitive Structures architectural pavilions series,” Sherman commented.

Distinguished international keynote guests include architects Kengo Kuma (Japan, Tokyo 2020 Olympic Stadium), Pritzker Prize winner Ryue Nishizawa (Japan, Sydney Modern), new modernist Gurjit Matharoo (India) and Iraqi-American artist, Michael Rakowitz (Fourth Plinth, Trafalgar Square).

Themed sessions will cover a broad range of subjects including Architecture Words, Women and Architecture, Ethical Architecture, Pavilions, Art and Architecture, Modern Architecture, Library Architecture and Future Architecture.

The events will be held at multiple venues including MAAS (Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences/ Powerhouse Museum), Ultimo; AGNSW (Art Gallery of NSW); and SCCI, Paddington.

Dr Sherman says, “Each year from 2018 to 2022, SCCI will host two public event programs across Fashion (April/May) and Architecture (September/October).

The Hubs provide a forum for deep-dive engagement in these forms of cultural expression within the context of contemporary art and culture.”
