GHD Woodhead have revealed their designs for a new $175 million hotel and apartment complex for Adelaide’s CBD, featuring a restored heritage-listed façade podium and 30-storeys of hotel and residential facilities.

The design is planned for 51 Pirie Street, current site of the heritage listed State Bank building, and if approved would take over Telstra House as the city’s second-highest building.

The site and State Bank building was sold by Charter Hall earlier this year who had previously proposed a 24-storey office tower redevelopment for the site, designed by Fitzpatrick+Partners.

The GHD Woodhead proposal stretches 30-levels high and includes a 10-floor hotel with 250 upscale 4-star rooms and facilities. It also comprises 280 residential apartments and includes a café, bar and dining facilities, meeting rooms, gymnasium with sauna, open air sky-deck with pool and car parking.

South Australian based development company LGB Australia signed a Management Agreement with the Park Hotel Group and the SA State Government to develop the 51 Pirie Street site during a trade mission ceremony in Singapore.

The proposal has started its pre-lodgement process with the Development Assessment Commission and will be assessed by the Government Architect Design Review Panel.

If approved, construction is expected to begin in 2017 and be completed in 2018.
