Open House Melbourne for 2014 begins on Saturday, 26 July with several exciting opportunities for people to engage with their city.

The Open House Melbourne 2014 program includes the ever-popular Open House Melbourne weekend on Saturday 26 July and Sunday 27 July as well as a range of city based events throughout July such as Nite Art installations, the Speaker Series free talks and a launch at the operating J Substation.

Historically, Open House Melbourne has been an annual event where a single weekend each year is set aside for showcasing the diversity of significant buildings and spaces that contribute to Melbourne’s unique design culture and values.

The 2014 edition promises an enhanced experience with the weekend to be followed by supporting programs throughout the year that will allow people multiple opportunities to engage with their city.

Lord Mayor Robert Doyle said Open House provides a rare opportunity to discover the hidden interiors behind some of Melbourne’s closed doors.

According to the Lord Mayor, Open House unlocks the city’s most intriguing buildings, allowing residents to see their city in a new light and enabling visitors to discover the interiors, architectural excellence and historical distinction that make Melbourne a great design city.

The doors of over 100 buildings will be opened to the public on 26 and 27 July for the 2014 Open House Melbourne.

The annual event is expected to attract over 125,000 visits and returns in 2014 with more activities outside of the open buildings.
