Technē Architecture + Interior Design has accounted for the sustained growth of its operations with the promotion of three employees into senior positions.

The design studio has promoted Sebnem MacDonald (pictured left) to the role of Associate, with Gabriella Gulacsi (pictured centre) and Sam Sempill (pictured right) both moving into the role of Associate Director. The evolution in Technē’s leadership team is something Director Nick Travers says both he and the practice are proud of.

“This enables all of us to be involved in more complex projects that are instilled with our trademark creativity and individuality, while maintaining the quality and craft in what we do,” he says.

With over 20 years of experience in both domestic and international markets, Gabriella Gulacsi will lead the Technē Interior Design team as Associate Director. Gulacsi joined Technē in 2015 and has grown to manage commercial projects, nurture client relations and oversee the project lifecycle for industry leaders and blue-chip clients. Gulacsi possesses strong business acumen, determination and work ethic to lead and mentor her team.

“Integrity and honesty is infused within our design concepts, and coupled with our niche approach, we’re providing a platform that inspires and delivers on time and within scope,” says Gulacsi.

Sam Sempill has additionally been elevated to Associate Director and will lead the Architecture team. Sempill is a multi-disciplinary designer with a broad range of project experience. With over 15 years in the industry and 4 years at Technē, Sempill has extensive practice management, project management, and project delivery experience.

The new Associate Director prides herself on her ability to build lasting relationships with stakeholders that continue long after projects are completed. Her project portfolio spans a variety of sectors, from hospitality and wellness to hotels and high-end residential. Sempill’s interest in visual arts and textile design informs much of her design approach.

“I am motivated to move into my Associate Director role, and look forward to helping shape our studio’s future. I am inspired to share the knowledge that I have accumulated over time, and I will continue to promote gender equality in the industry,” says Sempill.

Senior project architect and urban designer, Sebnem MacDonald, begins her new role as an Associate at Technē. MacDonald’s 20 years of professional experience spans the UK, Turkey, and Australia. Her unique international professional background covers a highly diverse field – from furniture design to urban design; and from refurbishing heritage buildings to the concept design of high-rise mixed-use developments.

MacDonald has been the project leader of a number of prestigious multi-residential, hotel and large-scale mixed-use developments in Melbourne and Perth. Since joining Technē in 2019, her portfolio has expanded to include Fourdrinier House, Sheahan Townhouses, and a major hotel-retail-hospitality project in St Kilda. The Associate leads teams with humility and confidence while ensuring client and stakeholder objectives are met.

“My passion is achieving high quality design while coordinating multi-disciplinary teams in large, complex, and bespoke projects. It is exciting to take my passion to the next level in this new chapter of my career.” she says.

Technē has been involved in shaping many of Melbourne’s top food and beverage venues, alongside a suite of acclaimed private residences and commercial developments. For more info, visit techne.com.au.
