Matthews Architects has announced Adelaide native Claire Perperidis has been appointed as Project Leader to its team, after a 17 year stint in the UK as an architect.

Perperidis holds nearly two decades of national and international design experience across the education, commercial, health, care and residential sectors. After starting her career in 2003 as a Graduate of Architecture, in Adelaide, Perperidis moved to the UK where she gained experience as an Architectural Assistant and Associate. During this time, she worked across projects including Heathrow Airport Terminal 5, Houndshill Retail & Cinema Complex (Blackpool), Metrocentre Cinema Extension (Newcastle) and Manor Place listed townhouse conversion (Edinburgh).

Perperidis’ most recent role was at Covell Matthews Architects in Edinburgh, where she was an associate. The new Project Leader has significant experience in leading teams from concept design through to completion, overseeing projects and collaboration.

At Matthews, Perperidis will be responsible for running a variety of projects from initial evaluation and feasibility studies through to detailed design, contract administration and construction, working closely with clients, consultants, and contractors. She will assist the Graduates of Architecture within the team to carry out tasks and will provide guidance on both specific projects and wider career development.

“I am thrilled to be working at a highly-respected firm such as Matthews Architects to continue to develop my career back in my home city,” Perperidis says.

“I look forward to focusing on developing and coordinating designs through to construction. I love a challenging build - whether it’s a multitude of regulations that need to be met, or a complicated structure. My leadership style is about sharing my knowledge, especially what I have learnt while in the UK, with my team.”

Matthews Architects Senior Architect and Managing Director Gerald Matthews says Perperidis is an ideal fit for the firm.

“It’s rare to come across someone of Claire’s global experience leading such a range of architectural projects internationally and we welcome her home to Adelaide. Her passion for design and delivery is evident,” he says.

“Claire will be a great asset to our firm with her strong communication and relationship skills, which will help maintain Matthews as a leading architecture and design firm in South Australia.”

Perperidis has already begun contributing to some of Matthews’ large-scale commercial projects and will continue to contribute to the ongoing operation and growth of the company.
