Geospatial data company Geoscape Australia have appointed Dean Capobianco as their new CEO, as the company looks to revolutionise its work from the top down.

A former Olympian and tech industry veteran, Capobianco brings a wealth of experience to the position and has been given the role specifically to realise Geoscape’s desire to be the de facto standard for national-scale location data in Australia.

Chair of the Board of Geoscape Australia, Lynne Robinson, says Dean brings fresh eyes to the spatial information industry and deep experience in data and technology innovation.

“Dean is a commercially astute and execution-oriented business leader. He has successfully built, scaled and transformed businesses in Australia and the Asia Pacific region,” she says.

A former Olympian and tech industry veteran, Capobianco brings a mandate for change through the pursuit of new partnerships, business models and product innovation.

He is also a Non-Executive Director of Provider Choice, builder of a digital platform that guides people through the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), and a Senior Adviser to Karlsgate Inc, creator of cryptoidentity – a privacy-by-design data sharing technology.

“Dean’s capabilities and leadership style are a very close match to what we were seeking in our new CEO,” Robinson says.

“He is immensely positive and energetic, with a real knack for bringing out the best in people. We know he’ll have a big impact on the business.”

Capobianco says he looks forward to moving the company through its next chapter.

"The geospatial industry continues to evolve with the constant search for new data sources, tools and solutions, and I’m excited to lead Geoscape into its next phase of growth and innovation,” he says.

“Helping governments, industries and organisations make critical decisions, transform their businesses and deliver improved products and services is important for the future of all Australians.”

As a former World Championship athlete, Dean is also co-founder of an indigenous youth sports program designed to create opportunities for aspiring young talent from indigenous communities.

Dean will spend his first few weeks at Geoscape meeting shareholders, partners and customers.
