bureau^proberts has announced the creation of five new senior roles and two promotions, as the Brisbane-based practice looks towards 2022 with an eye on the international.

Following the practice celebrating its 30th birthday in 2021, bureau^proberts Founder and Creative Director Liam Proberts says the new year is all about furthering the river city studio’s international presence.

“With an exciting Middle East opportunity on the horizon, we're poised at the start of an exciting chapter of growth," he says. 

"The newly created roles support the strong design ethos central to our culture, whilst the promotions recognise the talents of our up-and-coming architects. They are our next generation of leaders."

bureau^proberts has had a key role in shaping the urban fabric of Brisbane and the east coast of Australia. Beginning the year with a record number of local projects either with approval or in their infancy, the practice’s design for the Expo 2020 Australia Pavilion has drawn the attention of international clients.

Liam Proberts

Proberts says that the practice’s expertise in designing for coastal environments is something international clients seek out.

“Australian architects and architecture are in demand,” says Proberts. 

“Clients are drawn to our ability to respond to climate and context with design that is deeply connected to place.”

Terry McQuillan

Terry McQuillan has been appointed to the position of Head of Architecture and Design. As a Director and Partner, Terry has been with the practice for over twenty years and has delivered some of its largest and most complex projects. McQuillan will support Proberts directly, ensuring the practice’s design culture continues to nurture and drive innovation.

Skye Rayner

Skye Rayner has been named Head of International Projects. Rayner joined the practice as a Project Design Manager and has extensive experience working across the UAE, Ireland and Australia, furthering the practice’s international nous. Rayner will focus on business development, relationship building and ensuring high standards of design and service delivery across international projects.

Current Associates Dan Liddy and Andrew Bell have expanded their roles to become Project Design Leaders. The studio regards Liddy as a natural leader with a deep appreciation for design culture.

Associate Nathan Lane has been named Head of Production. Lane is a highly skilled designer, documenter, coordinator and manager, expertly steering projects from start to finish with a rigorous approach to design and delivery.

Fiona Sheils and Matthew den Exter have been made Associates. Sheils has been with the practice since 2014 and is highly regarded by the practice for her design and leadership skills, particularly in the realms of sustainability and passive design.
