The Decoration + Design International Seminar Series returns to Sydney in 2014, featuring a variety of topics and forums that will provide the interiors industry with valuable insights and worthy discussion points about topics and trends affecting the industry.

This year’s series will feature the biggest guest speaker line-up yet, and includes:

  • Founder and creative director of Asylum, Chris Lee (Hong Kong);
  • Architect, interior and product designer, Nigel Coates (UK);
  • Trend expert and senior design editor at WGSN Homebuildlife (UK);
  • Managing director of futurespace, Angela Ferguson (AUS);
  • Interior designer, lecturer and author Babette Hates (AUS);
  • Ian Moore of Ian Moore Architects (AUS);
  • James Treble of Treble Studios and Channel Ten’s The Living Room (AUS);
  • Scott Weston of Scott Weston Architecture Design (AUS); and
  • Interior designer and stylist, Shannon Fricke (AUS)

Each speaker will delve into different design topics. Lucy Hayes (UK) will present WGSN Homebuildlife’s Spring/Summer 2015 Macro trends, with in-depth coverage of colour, materials, forms and finish. This presentation will take the audience through the major product categories, from bed, bath and kitchen to furniture, lighting, and the outdoor and beyond.

Nigel Coates’(UK) talk will unpack his approach to interiors as a framework for arousing the moment. The question of whether an interplay between space and object activates spatial experience will be raised, although Coates will argue that it is atmosphere that really counts.

Chris Lee (Hong Kong) will examine ways to create fun indoor environments, starting with the conceptualisation of interior spaces.
