The shortlist for the 2014 Houses Awards has been released with 120 Australian built residential projects listed across eight categories.

The shortlist came from a record 261 submissions for the 2014 edition of the awards, and the jury commended the wide spectrum of design approaches that saw innovative new and refurbished projects.

Katelin Butler, from the Jury panel says "Once again the jurors were impressed with the array and calibre of projects entered into to the Houses Awards – a testament to the high quality of work being produced across Australia.

All projects had to be individual dwellings designed primarily for residential occupation. Entry was open to both Australian-based and international design professionals under the condition the project was located within Australia.

Entrants will compete for both a $1000 category prize and also for The Australian House of the Year Award, which will receive a $5,000 prize. The Awards will be presented at Sydney’s Doltone House, Hyde Park, on 1 August.
