Italian designer Alessandro Isola magnified the imperfections of a creased carpet to create a distinctly different seating structure, named the ‘Stumble Upon Sofa’.
The playful piece of furniture features a large rug that undulates over a carbon fiber supportive core to form a functional sofa.
The changing height and curvature of the sofa along the length of its ridges provides upright seating positions at one end and informal lounging at the other.
Padding has been added underneath areas of the carpet to provide extra comfort and support.
Also incorporated into the structure is book or display shelving that has been hidden in the fold of the rug at the larger open end of the sofa.
The sofa’s design concept follows on from Isola’s ‘Stumble Upon Coffee Table’, which utilized the turned up corner of a rug as a flat table surface.
