    2017 Eat Drink Design Awards announced

    Projects from New South Wales have dominated the 2017 Eat Drink Design Awards, an annual awards program which celebrates innovation and excellence in the design of hospitality venues.

    From a shortlist of 94 Australian and New Zealand projects, six came out on top in their respective categories: Best Bar Design, Best Café Design, Best Identity Design, Best Restaurant Design, Best Retail Design, and Best Installation Design. An iconic hospitality venue was also inducted into the program’s Hall of Fame.  

    Four of these awarded projects were from New South Wales, and included Campos Barangaroo by Woods Bagot (Best Retail Design), Noma Australia by Foolscap Studio (Best Installation Design), The Dolphin Hotel by George Livissianis (Best Bar Design), and Fratelli Paradiso by the late Mike Murphy (Hall of Fame).

    The other major winners at the awards consisted of Morris and Health by Ritz & Ghougassian (Best Café Design), Jackalope Hotel by Fabio Ongarato Design (Best Identity Design), and Viet Next Door by Genesin Studio (Best Restaurant Design).

    “This year's entries were united by a sweeping sense of ambition across all categories – one focused on careful detail. Within the scope of such ambition we saw more genteel and conservative entries, and entries with irony, verve and wit. The winners in each category display multiple such qualities, combined with a sense of rigour in the application of detail and materials,” says Cassie Hansen, jury chair.
