Salisbury is a growing suburb in Adelaide’s north. As part of a major revitalisation project, the City of Salisbury Council looked to create a Community Hub; an ‘adaptable, flexible and agile’ precinct that could meet the council’s operational needs while offering the community a destination for learning, social interaction and entertainment.

A key aspect of the Community Hub’s design were the large expanses of glazing on all facades, windows and doors, to provide visitors with a leafy outlook across the Town Square and accentuate natural lighting across all levels. Flush-glazed thermally broken framing was selected, in order to create a stunning exterior finish while simultaneously creating comfortable ambient temperatures and reducing the building’s heating and cooling costs.

To deliver the design vision, leading aluminium and glass fabricators, Aluco, customised the thermally broken framing to meet anticipated building loads and glazing spans. Working with the project designer and builder, Aluco selected Alspec’s ThermAFrame system to achieve optimal energy efficiency while benefitting from the system’s clean lines and large-span openings. The ThermAFrame system draws on the latest in polyamide thermal break technology and Australian design principles to achieve its exceptional energy efficiency performance, capable of window Uw values as low as 1.9.

All framing and door solutions across the build were manufactured by Alspec and come with exceptional performance credentials. The Community Hub’s main entrance feature’s Alspec’s Swan Evo 45mm Double Glazed Commercial Doors, providing superior operation and performance in high-use environments. Additionally, the ProGlide High Performance Sliding Doors and the Hawkesbury Commercial Multi-Fold Doors, used throughout the building, are also designed with high-demand in mind, featuring a smooth top-rolling operation and stable centre hinges to prevent bowing on tall doors.

The finished Community Hub is a visually impressive, light, welcoming and energy efficient space that has already received ‘overwhelmingly positive feedback’ from the Salisbury community. The large expanses of glazing enhance the overall sense of openness and connection to the outdoors and city centre, while creating a productive and calming environment for the council’s administrative teams.
