How perforation works

At its simplest, perforating metal involves using hydraulic machinery made up of a punch and a die. The punch pushes through the material, creating a clean hole and ejecting the leftover metal (called a ‘slug’) through the die.

For large-scale projects, our mass perforation machines can deliver up to 500 hits per minute, forming multiple rows of holes at once. That’s hundreds of thousands of holes in just a matter of minutes. For more detailed or custom architectural projects, we use linear punch presses that allow for unique, flexible patterns and designs – with either standard or custom-made dies.

Pic-Perf: Turning perforation into art

Perforation isn’t just functional – it can be beautiful too. That’s where Pic-Perf comes in. This innovative technique transforms standard perforated sheets into detailed visual designs, using varying hole sizes to recreate abstract or figurative images.

It’s all about smart preparation. We take your supplied image, convert it into a digital format, and feed it into our software. The result? A high-impact visual element built right into the metal – no additional printing or overlay required.

What happens to all the metal we punch out?

Every slug of metal removed during perforation is recycled – we send it to a foundry where it’s melted down and reused.
