Envirofan recommends the use of its sub floor ventilation systems instead of ducting for crawl spaces in homes.

It is important to get the ventilation right in the crawl space, the sub floor area of any home. Instead of using a duct to facilitate ventilation in the sub floor area, an Envirofan quad fan system can be installed in the opening in the extraction mode with the sub floor area acting as an air transfer duct.

The principle of air extraction in solid brick construction is quite the same as in brick veneer construction, the only difference being that since rooms are sectioned off from one another by sub walls, each room would need its own ventilation system to draw the damp air out by creating negative pressure in the sub floor region.

In the colder regions of Australia where ducted underfloor heating is used, the warm ducts come in contact with the cold ground especially in the crawl space with reduced clearance, leading to condensation on top of poor sub floor ventilation, creating a twofold problem. Using ducting for sub floor ventilation only adds to more unnecessary paraphernalia in the sub floor region.

On the other hand, Envirofan sub floor ventilation systems do not clog up the sub floor area.

Based on the several installations executed by Envirofan, crawl spaces with vents are usually below floor level and above ground level. Reduced sub floor clearance areas cater for thirty percent of installation done, and do not represent the whole of house sub floor area. Flexible ducting therefore, cannot be the standard one-size-fits-all solution for sub floor ventilation.
