The power behind Kone Elevators ' eco-efficient solutions are Kone EcoDisc hoisting machines. EcoDisc hoisting machines can save half or more of the energy consumed by a regular elevator.

Kone eco-efficient solutions save energy when the elevator is moving and they also offer solutions that reduce standby energy consumption when the elevator is standing still. Working together, these eco-efficient solutions can save as much as three quarters of the total energy consumption and these savings can amount to more than the original cost of the elevator over the lifetime of the equipment.

Kone EcoDisc's are permanent magnet synchronous hoisting machines that consume 70% less energy than a hydraulic drive and 50% less than a traction drive. Due to variable frequency drives used in our lifting solutions, the peak starting current is 30–40% of that of equivalent hydraulic and traction units, reducing energy consumption and size of fuses.

Kone EcoDisc hoisting machines are thin and lightweight and require less raw material and space than traditional hoisting machines. Kone EcoDisc hoisting machines provide the following:

The regenerative system used with EcoDisc hoisting machines is able to recover excess braking energy from the elevator and convert it for use elsewhere, like lighting building. The counterweight or elevator car becomes the motor and hoisting machines become generators and convert the power into current. The regenerative system can help to recover up to 25% of the total energy used by an elevator and produces clean and safe energy that will not damage the network.

Plastics used in electrification cables are halogen free and in case of fire will not produce toxic gas and will not release corrosive acids.
