Several ceiling and walling products from Cemintel™ were handpicked for the new landmark shopping centre on the Gold Coast.

Created by the Sydney-based Harvey family on the waterfront site initially developed by the late Sir Bruce Small in the 1960s, Capri on Via Roma pushes the boundaries of design with a fusion of Italian-Australian culture while embracing the ambience of its unique waterfront location.

Designed by BDA Architecture’s Project Director, Adam Beck and Design Architect, Steve McCracken, working alongside world acclaimed interior designers Landini Associates, Capri on Via Roma, spanning over 6000 square metres, highlights a fusion between the Australians’ relaxed, outdoor-loving lifestyle and the Italians’ love of good food, coffee and quality time with family.

Cemintel products from both the constructive and creative ranges were specially selected for the interior and exterior areas. The shopping hub has since been affectionately dubbed the ‘Isle of Cemintel’.

BDA Architecture specified Cemintel SoffitLine as it not only met the requirements of a strong jointing compound around the soffit, it also utilised Cemintel’s CeminSeal technology, preventing water penetration into the sheet and providing increased joint strength.

Installed internally and externally, SoffitLine delivers both functional and aesthetic benefits to the building. Offering a low maintenance flush jointed panel for external ceilings, SoffitLine’s pure white finish highlights the contemporary feel of the overall centre, creating a relaxed light-filled ambience.

In addition to the ceiling, Cemintel products were also used for internal and external walling with BareStone selected for its cement-looking appearance and the unique feature of CeminSeal waterblock technology, protecting it from the elements. The soft neutral greys contrast against the dark finishes of the rustic timber flooring.

According to Cemintel Senior Product Manager, Ben Thompson, this application was a great demonstration of how Cemintel products, such as BareStone could be part of a project that pushed design boundaries to become a talking point. The Cemintel products were installed by TAF Group Construction.

The shopping centre is expected to open soon with over 30 retail businesses hand-selected by the Harvey family and international commercial leasing agents, Knight Frank Leasing.
