Bondor has launched a new roofing solution that will revolutionise the way insulated panel roofs are connected during installation.

The launch of the new panel roofing solution from Australia’s leading PIR insulated roof and walling manufacturer Bondor/Metecno follows more than 18 months of rigorous testing, including weather testing to Australian Standards (conducted by CSIRO). SecureLap now offers the Australian commercial roofing market real confidence around watertight security and meaningful material warranties.

Bondor’s National Sales Manager and Project Leader for SecureLap, Glen Roberts, explained that the new lapping system evolved from a local market demand for PIR roofing systems designed specifically to withstand the harsh weather conditions in Australia.

According to Mr Roberts, existing sheet-to-sheet end laps acceptable in other parts of the world have been problematic in Australia, encouraging Bondor/Metecno to develop a better solution for local conditions.

The new SecureLap is expected to revolutionise lapping systems available in Australia, eliminating issues with water entry, metal-to-metal contact corrosion and reliance on sealant or multiple runs of difficult-to-align butyl tape.

Highlights of the SecureLap system include a flexible sealing strip moulded to suit MetecnoSpan PIR roofing profile; primary fixing plate secured through the lower level panel into the purlin and the secondary, sliding fixing plate connected to the upper level sheet, both allowing minor thermal movement likely in long panel roof runs; compressive closed cell sealing system eliminating wind driven rain from entering the lap; and lower level sheet turn-ups acting as a secondary mechanical barrier to water entry.

Describing SecureLap as an end-lapping breakthrough, Mr Roberts expects a high volume of demand from architects, builders and developers. He says SecureLap is an affordable alternative that allows connection over a single purlin, eliminates the need for sealants, provides the security of weather testing by CSIRO and is endorsed by BlueScope Steel.

Mr Roberts notes that the added layers of security provide asset owners, architects, builders and roof contractors a level of confidence about their roof installation not previously afforded by sheet-to-sheet end-lapping.
