Products from Dulux Protective Coatings were specified for a mural created specifically for the new Waterline Park, a bright recreational space developed in Brisbane for locals and tourists alike.

Created as part of Brisbane's major Queens Wharf redevelopment, the new Waterline Park is located on the site of a disused concrete car park in the heart of the CBD. Located along a 500-metre stretch of land underneath the Riverside Expressway, Waterline Park sits on the edge of the Brisbane River between William Street and Mangrove Walk.

Design highlights of the new Waterline Park include a climbing wall as well as a dedicated lane for cyclists to link through the space from the city to the Bicentennial Bikeway. The new design not only encourages active leisure and relaxation for workers during the week but also supports family-oriented recreational pursuits on weekends.

The ‘Floodlines’ mural is a bright and expansive urban artwork created by LA-based Australian artist, Alice Lang for the park.

"Painted across the underside of the Riverside Expressway, the artwork references the peak water level of Brisbane’s 2010- 2011 floods," explains applicator Benjamin Werner from All City Walls.

A reliable coatings system that delivered colour variety, durability and graffiti resistance was needed to realise this stunning public space artwork.

"We recommended Dulux Durebild STE and Dulux Weathermax HBR to provide the required finish and colour variety," explains Dulux Protective Coatings technical sales representative Manoli Hnoudis, who advised the project team about the coatings system and application, and also organised the colours specified by the artist.

"After the surface was pressure-washed, Durebild STE was applied at 125 microns, before Weathermax HBR was applied at 100 microns."

A surface tolerant epoxy, Durebild STE was the perfect primer coat for the application of Weathermax HBR, a high build recoatable polyurethane coating.

"Together, these coatings deliver a long-lasting, hard-wearing, anti-graffiti coating in the finish and colour variety required," said Manoli.

The stunning colours of the mural at Waterline Park have already breathed new life into what was once a dingy part of the Queensland capital. The precinct has been welcomed by Brisbane residents and community groups.
