Warren and Mahoney has announced the appointment of two senior architects to its Sydney studio — a move that signals the firm's accelerating ambitions in the Australian market.

Alex Wessling joins as Principal and Sarah Slattery as Associate Principal, deepening a leadership team that Warren and Mahoney (WAM) has been building since it established its Sydney presence in 2013.

Managing Director John Coop says both appointments represent a deliberate investment in the studio's long-term direction. "Alex and Sarah add tremendous depth to our leadership team and broader studio. Together they bring extensive experience across sectors that are central to our ambitions in Australia," he says. "This is a significant moment for our Sydney studio, and I'm genuinely excited to see what we achieve together in the years ahead."

Alex Wessling, Principal

Wessling brings more than two decades of experience across the defence, education, health and mixed-use sectors. Most recently a Director at HDR, she has built her reputation on seamlessly guiding complex projects from concept design through to construction.

Her Australian portfolio includes the Western Sydney University Bankstown City Campus — an internationally recognised project — alongside the landmark Factory of the Future. She has also delivered major defence and health infrastructure, including Australian Defence Force accommodation in Darwin and the University of Canberra Public Hospital.

Sarah Slattery, Associate Principal

Slattery brings deep expertise in the sports and community sector, developed across Australia and the United States. She joins from AJC Architects, where she served as Studio Lead - Design, steering a range of complex, socially significant projects — among them the Galuwa Recreation Centre, delivered in partnership with Lane Cove Council.

Barrington Gohns, Head of Design in Australia at WAM, says the additions open new capability across two of the studio's priority sectors. "The sports and education sectors are super exciting for us, and Alex and Sarah bring new capability for our teams and clients," he says. "I can't wait to see what we can achieve together."
