Architectus has appointed Ralph Williams as its new National Sector Leader for Defence, who joins the practice with over two decades of design experience across defence and government planning, design, and construction projects.

Being named a Principal in conjunction with his new role in the defence sector, Williams will spearhead Architectus’ national growth within the sector by drawing on the firm’s cross-sector expertise in workplace, aviation, rail, science and research, education, urban planning, residential, and interiors.

Before moving to Architectus, Williams led a number of high-profile defence projects, including Air 5428 Pilot Training Systems, Victoria Barracks Redevelopment Melbourne and the Riverina Redevelopment Program.

“Ralph is a recognised leader in the Defence Sector and has delivered design solutions for some of the largest and most technically complex defence projects in the country,” says Architectus CEO, Ray Brown.

“His expertise will be instrumental to building the Sector and we look forward to working with him to design the next generation of defence infrastructure in Australia.”

Williams says he looks forward to growing Architectus’ output in the sector through mentoring and leading the defence team.

“I’m looking forward to leveraging Architectus’ experience across all sectors to align with the diverse needs of the Australian Defence Force – whether it’s designing offices, living accommodation, data centres, training and learning facilities, or aviation and health facilities, I’m confident that we can position Architectus at the forefront of this vital Sector,” he says.

Mark Mitcheson-Low, current Architectus Principal renowned for establishing the practice’s Perth Studio and National Defence Sector, has been elevated to National Leader Strategic Projects, with Williams taking his place.
