Aurecon has announced a series of senior leadership appointments in Adelaide as it expands its buildings portfolio, positioning the business to deliver major health, education and infrastructure projects in South Australia.

The move comes as Aurecon continues to deliver complex, city-shaping projects, including the recently completed $135 million all-electric Adelaide Aquatic Centre, with the expansion reflecting a period of strong growth for the firm.

The appointments of Peter Burrows, Carla Lepore, John Duffy and Derek Broome bring more than a century of combined industry experience to Aurecon’s Adelaide Buildings team, strengthening their capabilities across the healthcare, defence, transport, and construction sectors.

“Maintaining growth in the property industry requires sustainable growth in its workforce,” Aurecon’s Adelaide Buildings Leader, Corey McDonald says.

“At Aurecon, we invest early and build our team for security in the future. By making these strategic additions to lift our capability for clients locally and nationally, we’ve strengthened our leadership capacity across South Australia and Victoria.”

The expanded leadership team is already contributing to a portfolio of landmark South Australian developments, including the new $3.2 billion Women’s and Children’s Hospital, alongside major education and defence infrastructure projects.

Leadership appointments

Peter Burrows

Peter Burrows joins as Technical Director, Buildings Mechanical. A Chartered Mechanical Engineer with 20 years of experience across Australia and internationally, he will focus on maximising asset performance for the new Women’s and Children’s Hospital while continuing work on Flinders Medical Centre and the Royal Adelaide Hospital.

“I believe in giving back to help build a skills legacy here, so I’m looking forward to mentoring the next generation of engineers through our graduate program,” Burrows says.

Carla Lepore

Appointed Technical Director, Delivery Management, Carla Lepore has more than two decades of experience in commercial management for large-scale design.

“Being born and raised in Adelaide, I am passionate about projects that have a lasting impact on South Australia. Having already contributed to the New Royal Adelaide Hospital and the Future Submarine Project, I am proud to now support the new Women’s and Children’s Hospital,” she says.

John Duffy

John Duffy returns to Aurecon as Technical Director, Buildings. A Chartered Electrical and Building Services Engineer, he brings 18 years of experience across transport, health, laboratory, aviation, commercial, and mixed-use developments, with expertise in net-zero sustainability, digital engineering and infrastructure planning.

Derek Broome

Derek Broome has been appointed Director, Precincts, Aviation and Stadia. With 30 years’ experience delivering major infrastructure and precinct projects, he is known for leading large-scale national and international developments including the $535 million Adelaide Oval redevelopment.

The leadership expansion, alongside Aurecon’s Graduate Program and collaboration with Adelaide University, underscores the company’s ongoing investment in building local capability.

Aurecon’s recent projects, including the Modbury Hospital, the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Flinders Medical Centre and the Technical College in Mount Gambier, are contributing to more than 1,000 additional hospital beds and 1,500 technical college places across South Australia.
