Perth-based multi-disciplinary architecture practice TRCB has strengthened its senior leadership with the promotion of Josh Mangan to Director, marking a significant milestone for the firm.

Mangan’s elevation from Associate Director completes a three-person leadership team guiding the practice, reflecting the scale and ambition of the studio since its formation in 2018. TRCB was established through the merger of three reputed Western Australian architectural studios – Taylor Robinson (founded 1995), Chaney Architecture (founded 2014), and Broderick Architects (founded 1972) – bringing together decades of architectural expertise.

A longstanding member of the team, Mangan joined Chaney Architecture in May 2017 prior to the merger, having previously worked at Perth studio Birchgroup.

“Josh has been part of the fabric of this practice since our establishment in 2018. He's grown with us through the merger and through some of the most complex, rewarding projects we have delivered,” says TRCB Director Fred Chaney. “His promotion to Director reflects the kind of practice we’ve always wanted to build, including the creation of great career pathways and exciting project opportunities for our whole team.”

A graduate of the University of Western Australia, Mangan holds a Master of Architecture, is a Registered Architect and serves on the Architects’ Board of Western Australia. His experience spans education, civic, transport and sporting infrastructure, contributing to a range of major built environment projects across Perth.

“Josh has an incredible capacity to lead innovative design projects across a range of sectors, contribute to our profession at an industry-wide level and have a focus on implementing an ongoing pursuit of excellence within our practice,” notes TRCB Director Eamon Broderick.

Among his recent work, Mangan played a key role in the Metronet Morley–Ellenbrook Line project, delivered in collaboration with Woods Bagot for the Public Transport Authority. The five-station rail line serving Perth’s north-eastern suburbs has set new benchmarks for design quality, sustainability and public amenity in Australian transport infrastructure.

The project received five honours at the 2025 Australian Institute of Architects Awards, including the George Temple Poole Award and the National Award for Sustainable Architecture.

Mangan has also contributed to a new research incubator project for the Department of Health in Perth’s CBD, as well as Wesley College’s $32-million sports centre development in South Perth. The Wesley project includes four indoor basketball courts, a function centre, sports classrooms, a lecture theatre and outdoor tennis courts, alongside the transformation of the existing Blankensee Gymnasium into a dedicated high-performance training facility for athletes.

“I'm really excited to be stepping into this role and working closely with Fred, Eamon and the broader team to build on our design and sustainability focus across the practice,” says Mangan. “Most of all, I'm looking forward to continuing to deliver meaningful work for our clients and communities.”

Mangan is currently involved in a range of projects spanning sports precincts, education, civic and aged care developments across metropolitan Perth and regional Western Australia, as well as mining and resources infrastructure in the state’s north-west.

“Having three Directors leading TRCB feels like a genuinely significant moment for us, and we can't think of a more able person to help drive the future growth and development of the practice,” Chaney adds.
