HDR has appointed experienced business and project leader Peter Nel as manager of its growing transport practice in Australia, reinforcing the firm’s strategic focus on the sector.

Based in Brisbane, Nel, as HDR’s new Transport Manager, will lead a national practice that has expanded its workforce by more than a third in recent years and taken on a series of complex highway and road projects across eastern Australia.

In his new role, he will oversee the firm’s operations and financial performance across current transport projects, while working closely with local, national and global HDR leadership to extend the firm’s multidisciplinary services into new markets while maintaining its commitment to quality, collaboration and efficiency.

With a career spanning infrastructure projects in Africa, New Zealand, the Middle East and Australia, Nel brings a proven track record in project leadership and business management to his new role. During his nine years at HDR, he has contributed to some of the firm’s largest Australian transport projects, including the Smithfield Bypass, Haughton River Floodplain Upgrade and the Coomera Connector.

His expertise covers all stages of infrastructure delivery, from planning and design through to construction and project management, while providing guidance on commercial management and alternative delivery models across HDR’s transportation program.
