The Australian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (AIQS), the peak body for quantity surveying professionals in Australia, announces the recent appointment of Fiona Doherty as its new President.

Doherty’s two-year tenure commenced from the close of the 2025 Annual General Meeting. A Director on the AIQS Board since 2019, and Vice President prior to becoming the President, she is a longstanding Councillor on the ACT Chapter.

She has more than 36 years of experience in the quantity surveying profession, having served in key roles on construction projects across Australia, United Kingdom, Ethiopia, and Singapore.

“As the AIQS President, I would like my legacy to be that of a leader who inspired meaningful change, empowering the next generation of quantity surveying professionals. My goal is to leave behind a profession that is stronger, more inclusive and better equipped to shape a built environment,” says Doherty.

“The future of the built environment will be defined by resilience, innovation, and sustainability. We are entering an era where carbon neutrality and climate adaptation will be non-negotiable priorities. Smart technologies, including AI-driven design and IoT-enabled infrastructure, will continue to influence how we plan, construct, and maintain buildings. This new era reflects a broader recognition that the built environment is not just about structures but about creating spaces that enhance quality of life while minimising environmental impact,” she notes.

Welcoming Doherty as the new AIQS President, AIQS CEO Dr James Cameron adds, “Fiona is eminently qualified for the role, and I look forward to working with her over the next two years.”
