Raj Aseervatham will lead Engineers Australia from 2024 onwards, following the appointment of the esteemed practitioner to the roles of National President and Board Chair, replacing Nick Fleming.

Aseervatham 35 years of professional experience as an engineer includes work in both the public and private sector, commencing his career as a civil infrastructure engineer in local and state government. He then progressed to work in two ASX 50 mining companies and one ASX 50 energy company, consulting, and audit/assurance firms in Australia and overseas and is a twice-published author on organisational leadership.

“I am excited to lead Engineers Australia as we continue to deliver on our current strategy; one that is designed to take us well into the next decade,” Aseervatham says.

“I am also enthusiastic about bringing the culture of engineering into everyday conversations and making it more relatable to the human experience. From classrooms to dinner tables and lounge rooms, I hope we can inspire the next generation of engineers.

“The role engineering plays in meeting a broad spectrum of societal needs, and addressing critical threats such as climate change, is so crucial to human progress and wellbeing.”

Engineers Australia CEO Romilly Madew AO believes Aseervatham is well equipped to lead the organisation.

“Raj brings extensive engineering knowledge and leadership experience to the role. He is an accomplished senior executive with a long Australian and international career and is an experienced board director. He was admitted as an Engineers Australia fellow in 2012 and joined the board of Engineers Australia in 2019,” she says.

Madew says the contributions of departing National President and Chair Nick Fleming have been profound on the organisation.

“Nick has been a wonderful advocate for the profession and has amplified the voice of engineers through his role.

“Working with the board and the executive, he has driven an organisational strategy that will determine the path of Engineers Australia for many years to come. As a leader he has challenged us, urged us to look at diverse ways of working and what it means to have an impact.”
