Four local projects have been honoured by the Australian Institute of Architects at the 2015 Central Queensland Regional Architecture Awards.

The jury have handed out regional commendations to four projects in 2015 ranging from a remote hospital redevelopment to a Hamilton Island residential project.

Woods Bagot in collaboration with Billard Leece Partnership were the big winners this year, taking home the J W Wilson Award for Building of the Year for their Mackay Base Hospital Redevelopment.

“The Mackay Base Hospital is the result of a considered process of engagement,” say the jury.

“Complex decanting issues are influential in the result which sees the creation of a central public spine, connecting the building to landscape and reducing signage.”

“This project also challenges the typology of hospital administration space.”

All four projects will now progress to Queensland State Architecture Awards to be announced in Brisbane on 26 June.
