A five-star hotel has been added to Trenerry Property’s $300 million multi-architect-designed development in West Melbourne.

CHT Architects is behind the design of the seven-storey Adina Grand Apartment Hotel which is one of five buildings planned for the 80,000sqm site at 185 Rosslyn Street, West Melbourne, and will be the first 5-star hotel to be built in the area.

CHT Architects is also the principle architect for the overall project, working from an ARM masterplan and with contributions from Carr Design, Mim Design, Six Degrees and Hecker Guthrie.

Four independent apartment buildings, with individual apartment capacity ranging from 59 to 102 apartments and a total of 358 apartments, will be developed as will the 92-room, 5 star Adina Grand.

Some of the standout design elements in the new hotel include a leafy forest ambience in the foyer communicated via an internal solarius garden, planted with gnarled trees and wilds and looking up to a moonscape above; a green wall in the lobby enhanced by neon tubing, providing an ultra urban articulation throughout the building; and circular elements in the rooms referencing the external landscaping response by Eckerskley Garden Architecture.

The site for the precinct was the former home of the Australia Post Mail Centre, sold to Trenerry Property back in 2014, and is one of a number undergoing large-scale development in the west end.

A nine-storey 165-apartment building designed by Buchan Group is currently under construction down the road at 133 Rosslyn street while demolition has also begun on a 16-storey residential project at 386 Spencer Street West Melbourne designed by Hayball.

Construction is expected to start on the hotel in July, with completion anticipated end 2019.
