The Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA) and the Design Institute Australia (DIA) have combined resources to create six evenings of sustainable design discussion and networking.

Brisbane (30 April), Adelaide (6 May), Perth (7 May), Melbourne (14 May), Sydney (20 May) and Canberra (20 May) will all hold forums for interior sustainability discussion.

The 'Sustainable Interior Design' forums aim to introduce designers, decorators and architects to sustainable interior design and the Green Star — interiors rating tool.

Another main objective is to introduce designers in the more ‘uncommon sectors’ for sustainable design to examples of projects in their areas. Sustainable design in the retail, healthcare, hospitality and tertiary education sectors were highlighted by the GBCA as areas that will be addressed.

The Green Star — interiors rating tool will be discussed across the forums, as the GBCA endeavour to establish it as an effective environmental rating tool that assesses the sustainability of interior fit outs across a range of sectors.

The tool is a new initiative that directly assesses the interior sustainability performance of projects and fitouts.

“Green Star - Interiors provides developers, owners and users with best practice benchmarks for the development of interior fitouts and offers an avenue for the independent verification of fitout projects’ sustainability credentials through Green Star certification,” said the GBCA.

The tool forms part of the larger Green Star—rating tool which is the prevalent means test for assessing building sustainability in Australia.

These events are one off forums that allow attendants to accrue 2 CPD points towards the GBCA Green Star Accredited Professional qualification and 8 CPD points towards DIA Accredited Designer status.
