Final-year Master of Architecture students in Queensland are invited to apply for the 2026 Philip Y. Bisset Planning (Architecture) Scholarship, which will help them undertake research and travel related to planning, public architecture and civic life.

Announced by the Australian Institute of Architects Queensland Chapter, the $15,000 scholarship will support aspiring architects to pursue projects that engage with how the built environment can improve the lives of Queenslanders, ranging from inclusive public infrastructure to regional planning, housing, transport and more.

The Scholarship honours the legacy of the late Philip Y. Bisset, a dedicated Queensland public servant and advocate for better planning and design outcomes, whose contributions to the State’s urban landscape remain an enduring inspiration. Since its inception, the Scholarship has supported students exploring themes such as community housing in Indigenous communities, post-disaster urban recovery, and the transformation of waterfront public space.

“The Bisset Scholarship invests in the next generation of architects as civic leaders,” says Anna Svensdotter, Executive Director of the Queensland Chapter. “It enables students to ask bold questions about how architecture can support healthier, more inclusive, and more sustainable communities.”

The 2024 Scholars are currently abroad and completing their reports, with public presentations expected in September-October 2025.

Applications are open from 1 July to 30 September 2025.
