Parsons Brinckerhoff (PB) and Molonglo Group won the Urban Development Institute of Australia (UDIA) Award for Excellence in NSW regions and ACT held on 25 September, plus a commendation for the Master Planned Mixed Use development category for the NewActon development in Canberra.

"Working with Molonglo Group, PB provided land use and urban planning services to design a precinct that balances history with the needs of our contemporary, urban lifestyle," says PB regional director, NSW/ACT, David Stuart-Watt.

"The mixed use precinct is centred on the historic Hotel Acton building and its courtyards and it provides a range of commercial and community benefits. NewActon includes a choice of cafes, shops, health and fitness studios, apartments and offices."

The first stage of the development included the restoration of the once derelict heritage-listed Hotel Acton and the construction of a new, mixed use, eight-storey building. It achieved a 4 star Green Star rating, and the remaining two stages are designed to achieve higher energy ratings.
