The Department of Planning and Environment is looking for experts to be State members on Sydney and Joint Regional Planning Panels.

The Department’s deputy secretary for Planning Services, Marcus Ray, has encouraged experts in their relevant fields to apply for the key roles.

“If you’re interested in being a part of a team that will help drive the best regional development outcomes for your area, then we want to hear from you,” says Ray.

“These are paid part-time roles you can carry out alongside your current job. As part of an independent body, you’ll be making decisions on regionally significant planning applications valued over $30 million. You’ll also play a role in planning proposals, undertake rezoning reviews or act as a planning authority when directed.”

State panel members are appointed based on their expertise in either planning, architecture, heritage, the environment, urban design, land economics, traffic and transport, law, engineering, tourism or government and public administration. Together they ensure development decisions are made on technical merits, efficiency, fairness and transparency, with the added benefit of local knowledge.

The Department is seeking expressions of interest from candidates for the following roles:

  • Chairs for all Regional Planning Panels (commencing July 2019)
  • State members for all Sydney and Regional Planning Panels (commencing July 2019)
  • Chair for the Sydney Central City Planning Panel (commencing January 2019)
  • Alternate (on-call) members for all Panels (commencing July 2019).

Panel members are paid $1866 (Chairs) and $1435 (members) per meeting day, are hired for a maximum of three years, and should be available about 28 days a year.
