Established in honour of the late Jennifer Taylor, a pioneering architectural scholar, critic and educator, he Fellowship reflects her vision for a more outward-looking Australian architecture, deeply engaged with its regional context.

Taylor believed that meaningful architectural progress in Australia required an understanding of the cultures, traditions and material wisdom of our nearest neighbours.

The Dunbar Fellowship honours this belief by enabling architects to undertake one year of structured study or research, producing work that enriches architectural discourse and strengthens the civic and cultural value of our built environment.

“This Fellowship is about expanding the field of architectural thinking and ensuring that the profession continues to evolve in response to the diverse cultures and climates of our region,” says Anna Svensdotter, Executive Director of the Queensland Chapter.

“It’s a chance for architects to step away from project delivery and engage with deeper questions of place, heritage, ethics and innovation — and to share those learnings for the benefit of the broader public.”

Fellows are expected to publicly present their work and publish a report that communicates their findings in in clear and accessible language, making their research accessible to practitioners, educators, policy-makers and the wider community.

The Fellowship actively supports architectural knowledge that has the potential to inform better design outcomes, inclusive cities, climate-responsive practices and cultural understanding.

Applications are open from 1 July to 30 September 2025 and the award value is $30,000.
