This year’s shortlist for Multiple Residential Dwelling features an inspiring lineup of projects:

• The Paddock Cluster Housing Development by CROSBY Architects

The Paddock is a 27-dwelling cluster housing development in Castlemaine, Central Victoria.jpg — Contributive self-governance, return of biodiversity, food production, water conservation and net energy production are core goals of this project.

• ECHO.1 by C Street Projects

ECHO.1 is Australia's first Passivhaus-certified build-to-sell multi-residential project.jpg — Located in Hawthorn, Melbourne, it is a collection of eight three-storey townhouses over a basement.

• Victoria Street Collective by Zen Architects

The Collective is an innovative take on communal urban living.jpg — Located in Brunswick, Melbourne, the Victoria Street Collective stands as a testament to the evolving concept of urban living.

• Hope Street First Response Youth Service Refuge by Brand Architects

This First Response Youth Refuge is a place of safety and care.jpg — This is the largest purpose-built refuge for Hope Street Youth and Family Services.

• 155 Illawarra Rd Marrickville by Mackenzie Pronk Architects & Make Projects Partnership

The initial brief for 155 Illawarra Rd Marrickville was to adapt the dilapidated old shop into a viable commercial space.jpg — This project is an adaptive reuse of a dilapidated 1890s corner shop and residence in Marrickville, transformed into a small foot-print mixed-use development.

These projects exemplify excellence in Multiple Residential Dwelling, celebrating the design of a new townhouse, duplex or residential complex that contains multiple residential dwellings. Projects nominated under this category are classifiable as Class 2 or Class 3 buildings.

Now in its 19th year, the Sustainability Awards is Australia’s longest-running and most prestigious program celebrating excellence in sustainable design and architecture. On 19 November 2025, winners across 18 categories will be announced at the five-star Gala Evening at Sydney Town Hall.
