One-bedroom apartment model, ‘Convertible Spaces’, will increase living area for ‘Sanctuary on the River’ residents by 70 per cent, says Rothelowman architects.

The design model features flexible zoning and circulation space which sees apartment features like doors play different roles in changing layouts.

The ‘Convertible Spaces’ apartments are designed so that bedroom space can be incorporated into living space as required, and so that functional areas like corridors become usable without compromising on access through the apartment.

Walls of integrated joinery comprising TV units, kitchens and an integrated fridge are one contribution to this flexibility—bedroom robes with integrated bedside tables and a pull-down queen sized bed are another.

"Intelligently designed with meticulous attention to detail, ‘Convertible Spaces’ allows you to make the most of your space,” said Rothelowman principal Chris Hayton.

“By day you can have a studio apartment and by night you can maximise your entertainment capacity by increasing your living areas.”

“The movable walls that transform the apartment is itself a beautiful joinery unit continuing the Scandinavian theme whilst importantly providing useful functionality with a pull out pantry, soft close drawers and ample additional storage accessible from both sides.”

Located on the Yarra, about 3.5km from the Melbourne CBD, Sanctuary Apartments will be debut the Convertible Spaces model and will feature apartments priced from $415,000 to $455,000.

Sanctuary is expected to be completed spring 2015.
