ISIS has completed the fitout of Allens’ new offices at 101 Collins Street, one of the largest projects of its type undertaken in Melbourne in recent years.

Designed by BVN Architecture, the fit out involved a number of distinctive elements, including the installation of a large steel feature staircase and striking Danish timber flooring.

The 10,500 sqm project included the fitout of 272 offices and more than 30 meeting rooms across 6 & ¾ floors to meet the requirements of the law firm’s more than 600 staff.

The new offices are divided into two major sections, with the first consisting of six levels of staff office space, including individual offices and open plan work areas and staff meeting rooms and spaces.

James Doyle, ISIS Commercial Manager, said the project was one of the most detailed and demanding office fitouts ISIS had undertaken in its 22-year history.

“The eye-catching steel staircase connects the 35th to 40th floors in three separate segments, creating a focal design centrepiece on each level,” he said.

“The staircase was brought up in 3 metre sections via lift and painstakingly welded together in situ to ensure structural integrity and a flawless finish. It also necessitated complex load bearing alterations to the building’s steel structure.”

“ISIS sourced, imported and laid 800 metres of 35mm deep plantation-sourced Douglas Fir Pine floorboards from Danish supplier Dinesen on floor 37, which complimented the timber finish on staff office fronts,” said James.

“There is also a single level ‘Client Floor’ with reception area, a commercial kitchen and function room, auditorium, client meeting rooms with state of the art video conferencing facilities and a library,” James said.

“The Client Floor features Allens' extensive collection of Australian art.”

Allens Chief Operating Officer Craig Wallace said the main theme that drove the fitout was collaboration.

“When you are a firm with offices across Australia and Asia you need the facilities to allow your people to work effectively in teams,” Wallace said.

“What this fitout has done is given us the tools to be an even more collaborative law firm through the excellent use of communal spaces and cutting edge technology.”
