Yet another data centre on Sydney’s north shore could be closer than anticipated, as Goodman Group signalled its plans for a $1.4 billion reworking of the former ABC Studios site in Artarmon.

Documents submitted to the NSW Government indicate that the developer plans to demolish the existing structure and create a world-class data centre on Campbell Street.

Goodman acquired the site in 2022 for a sum of approximately $95 million. ABC were the sole tenants from the studio’s opening in 1956 until a lease-back arrangement with Goodman ended in 2023.

“The site provides strong strategic merit to accommodate the booming requirements for data centre operators and hyper-scalers, in a location that leverages immediately surrounding infrastructure and unlocks capacity to meet the demands for cloud data storage, enterprise uses and AI (artificial intelligence),” writes Goodman’s Head of Planning Guy Smith in a document addressed to the NSW Planning Department.

The new, 52-metre facility would provide parking and office space for data centre employees, utilising approximately 80 mega-volt amps of electricity. Goodman Group’s global powerbank exceeds 3.7 gigawatts, with 2 gigawatts already secured.
