International architecture and engineering company GHD has been named one of Australia’s most gender equal focussed workplaces by the federal government’s Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA).

GHD has been cited by the WGEA on the 2014 Employer of Choice for Gender Equality list which comprises 76 Australian employers striving to maximise the full potential of their female and male employees.

Arup engineering consultants, and construction and developer Mirvac were also named on the list, which contains a diverse range of companies, from fast food outlets to university organisations.

The WGEA citation recognises a commitment from employers to providing a work culture where learning and development opportunities, flexible work arrangements, and various leave options for both men and women with family and caring responsibilities are considered essential.

The citation replaces the old Employer of Choice for Women citation which, since its introduction in 2001, has ensured public recognition for companies who have made significant efforts to promote equal opportunity for women in Australian workplaces.

In order to be considered for citation, GHD first met a stringent criterion which included a list of over 60 requirements that the WGEA believes assesses the efforts from employers in the area of equal opportunity for men and women in Australian workplaces.

“Holders of the 2014 WGEA Employer of Choice for Gender Equality citation can be distinguished by their commitment to ‘doing’ rather than simply ‘talking’,” says Helen Conway, Director, WGEA.

“They are driving the lasting cultural and organisational change that is essential for any organisation committed to maximising the potential of women and men.”
